We simply must get to the bottom of this.
On Wednesday afternoon, clips and photos surfaced on social media platform X, showing President Joe Biden wearing a red “Trump 2024” hat while standing in front of firefighters in Shanksville, Pennsylvania—the site where United Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001. The unexpected incident happened less than 24 hours after former President Donald Trump joked during the presidential debate about sending Vice President Kamala Harris a “MAGA” hat.
Trump quipped that Harris had copied some of his most popular policies, including the “no tax on tips” plan, adding, “In fact, I was gonna send her a MAGA hat. She’s gone to my philosophy. But, if she ever got elected, she’d change it.”
This moment seemed like a possible explanation for Biden’s surprising hat choice, but there might be another.
During the debate, Trump referenced the Democratic Party elites’ coup against Biden in July, which resulted in Harris being elevated to the top of the ticket. “He got 14 million votes, and they threw him out of office. And you know what? I’ll give you a little secret. He hates her,” Trump said in another clip shared on X.
So, was Biden trolling Trump, or was the embittered president taking a jab at Harris?
Regardless, the photos and clips of Biden wearing the Trump hat quickly went viral.
At first glance, there appeared to be two possible explanations: either Biden was mocking Trump’s “MAGA” hat comment, or perhaps Biden truly harbors disdain for Harris. Both theories assume Biden was in on the joke.
But what if he wasn’t?
“BREAKING: A firefighter tricked Joe Biden into wearing a Trump hat. This has to be one of the greatest trolls in political history. No joke,” independent journalist Dom Lucre wrote on X.
If it turns out a firefighter did manage to trick Biden into wearing the hat, this prank would go down as one of the most legendary moments in American political history.
It certainly seems possible, especially since Trump also visited the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday, where he was warmly received by the crowd.
Regardless of the true reason behind the incident, and despite efforts by ABC moderators to undermine Trump, the former president appears to have scored an unexpected PR victory—thanks, perhaps, to one bitter, or potentially oblivious, octogenarian leader.
