Former President Donald Trump criticized the Paris Olympics for the opening ceremonies, which included a drag queen’s rendition of The Last Supper, calling it a display of bad taste. The Friday ceremony provoked outrage among Christians globally due to its Satanic imagery, drag queens mimicking da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” and a pale horseman of the Apocalypse riding through Paris. “I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace, actually,” Trump said on “The Ingraham Angle” Monday, according to Fox News. “I thought it was a disgrace.”
Trump stated that if the 2028 Olympic committee for the Los Angeles Games takes his advice, there will be no repetition of the slight against Christians. “We won’t be having a Last Supper as portrayed the way they portrayed it the other night,” he said. “I mean, they can do certain things. I thought it was terrible,” Trump continued. “Look, I’m for everybody. I’m very open-minded… but I thought what they did was a disgrace.”
Trump’s criticism was mild compared to Piers Morgan’s sharp condemnation in an Op-Ed in the New York Post, where Morgan accused the organizers of “brazenly insulting 2.4 billion Christians in the most flagrant manner imaginable.” Morgan noted, “It’s unthinkable that Olympic chiefs would have allowed other religions like Islam, Judaism, or Hinduism to be so crudely ridiculed in this way.”
Morgan dismissed reports that the organizers had apologized for the controversial skit, writing, “They haven’t. Instead, they just pretended they never meant to upset anyone. They knew exactly what they were doing.” He also criticized First Lady Jill Biden’s praise of the opening ceremony, which she described as “spectacular … every step of the way.” Morgan challenged her assessment, suggesting she consult the congregations of the churches she and President Biden attend, stating, “Trust me, they won’t be using the word ‘spectacular’ about this appalling display of deeply offensive blasphemy.”
Rev. Franklin Graham also weighed in, urging President Biden to condemn the ceremony. “It would be nice if President Biden, a Catholic, would issue a statement condemning this. Whether you’re Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, or Protestant, it is offensive,” he wrote on his Facebook account.
