Trump Launches Defamation Lawsuit Against E. Jean Carroll Over Rape Accusation
In response to E. Jean Carroll’s rape accusation, former President Donald Trump has taken legal action by filing a defamation lawsuit against her.
Trump’s legal team firmly believes that Carroll’s allegations are unfounded and amount to defamation.
This decision comes shortly after a federal jury held Trump accountable for sexual assault in a civil case brought by Carroll.
In his countersuit, Trump asserts that Carroll has consistently defamed him. Trump’s lawsuit highlights Carroll’s statement in a CNN interview where she claimed to have been raped by the former President. Trump argues that this claim disregards the jury’s determination of sexual abuse rather than rape.

Trump Alleges Malicious Intent in Defamation Lawsuit Against E. Jean Carroll
According to The New York Post, Trump’s court filing claims that Carroll knowingly made false statements or exhibited reckless disregard for their truthfulness. NBC News also reported that Trump’s legal team accuses Carroll of making statements with actual malice and ill will, intending to harm his reputation.
In response to Trump’s defamation suit, Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, argues that it is an attempt by the former president to evade accountability for his alleged defamation. Kaplan stated that Trump’s filing is merely a delay tactic, as accountability for his actions is imminent.
The legal battle between Trump and Carroll is expected to continue into the following year, with the defamation lawsuit scheduled for trial.
While Trump vehemently denies the rape allegations and is appealing the civil verdict that mandated a $5 million payment, he is simultaneously running for the presidency in 2024.
In her pending lawsuit against Trump, Carroll is seeking an additional $10 million, aiming to amend the damages sought in her initial defamation suit, which concluded on May 9 with a jury ruling in favor of Trump paying $5 million.
As these events unfold, Trump faces various legal challenges, including criminal cases, further complicating his presidential aspirations.
