Testimonies provided by IRS agent Gary Shapley and another whistleblower implicate Lesley Wolf, an Assistant U.S. Attorney based in Delaware, in obstructing the efforts of federal agents working on a criminal case against Hunter Biden.
Wolf, a lifelong Democrat, previously held a position at the progressive law firm Ropes & Gray, which has made substantial donations to Democratic causes.
Wolf began her career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Delaware District in 2006. Her actions in this role have raised concerns, including allegations that she tipped off Biden and his legal team about an upcoming IRS search of his storage locker in Northern Virginia.
It is also claimed that she impeded agents from searching a guesthouse on Joe Biden’s Delaware property, where Hunter Biden occasionally resided. Furthermore, she was said to have been involved in a meeting where attorneys allegedly proposed deviating from the standard protocols of the Justice Department.
In addition to her time at the Justice Department, Wolf has worked as a clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Anita Brody, who was appointed by George H.W. Bush. She also had a position at Ropes & Gray, a corporate law firm known for its significant donations to Democrats.
According to University of Iowa law professor Derek Muller, the firm’s political contributions, with 91% going to Democrats between 2017 and 2020, rank it as the 39th-most liberal among the country’s 100 largest law firms.
The political involvement of the Wolf family extends beyond Lesley. Together with her husband, Daniel, they have collectively donated $2,100 to Democratic politicians since 2008. Daniel Wolf’s donations amount to $1,800, while Lesley contributed $50 to Amy Klobuchar’s 2020 presidential bid and $250 to Josh Shapiro’s successful 2022 gubernatorial campaign.
In 2020, U.S. District Attorney David Weiss appointed Wolf as the Coronavirus Fraud Coordinator for the Delaware District. She has successfully resolved cases involving fraud amounts of $1.1 million and $246,000, respectively.
However, it is Wolf’s actions during the investigation into Hunter Biden that have drawn significant attention. Testimonies from IRS Supervisory Agent Gary Shapley and an anonymous whistleblower point to Wolf as the Department of Justice official who allegedly obstructed the investigation into Hunter Biden’s international business dealings.
According to their accounts, Wolf denied requests to search a storage locker in Northern Virginia belonging to Hunter Biden and allegedly informed Biden’s legal team about the federal agents’ interest in the property, potentially allowing him to conceal evidence.
The intrigue further intensified when agents discovered a text exchange in which Hunter Biden seemed to be threatening a Chinese businessman. Allegedly, Wolf also blocked a request to search Joe Biden’s Delaware residence, where Hunter was residing at the time. Agent Shapley reported that Wolf questioned the worthiness of the search and cited negative optics as reasons to oppose it.
As for Hunter Biden, he has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of tax evasion and is expected to enter a pretrial diversion program for a felony firearms violation. Notably, his plea agreement was announced prior to the release of whistleblower testimony by the House Ways and Means Committee, leading some members of Congress to speculate that he may have received advanced notice of the forthcoming report.
