Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is recovering after undergoing a successful hip replacement surgery following a fall in Luxembourg. Her office confirmed on Saturday that Pelosi is now “well on the mend.” She received care at both the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at the Landstuhl Army Base in Germany and at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg.
“Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans,” Pelosi’s spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement.
Pelosi’s fall occurred on Friday, preventing her from attending scheduled events marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Reports suggested the fall happened on stairs, and sources told the New York Times that Pelosi had fractured her hip.
Pelosi joins a number of other senior political figures who have suffered injuries recently. Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also had a fall this week, spraining his wrist and sustaining a facial scratch after leaving a GOP lunch on Tuesday. However, McConnell was reported to be mentally “100%” according to Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY).
