Melania Trump will not accompany her husband to Washington on Wednesday when President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are set for a formal transition meeting, according to multiple reports.
Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet at the White House at 11 a.m., per CNN. CNN sources indicated that Melania’s absence is attributed to a prior commitment, though others suggest there’s more to it.
“She ain’t going,” the New York Post quoted a source close to Melania Trump as saying.

“Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting,” the Post’s source added. This reference relates to the August 2022 FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, where agents searched for classified documents.
“Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet,” the Post’s source also said. Traditionally, incoming and outgoing first ladies meet for tea while their husbands hold a transition meeting. However, Melania Trump has often disregarded traditional expectations.
“She’s been unique among modern first ladies,” said Tammy Vigil, an associate professor of communications at Boston University and author of a book on first ladies, according to the BBC. “She does things the way she wants to do them, as opposed to the way she has to do them,” Vigil noted.
The majority of Americans have entrusted us with this important responsibility.

Recently, Melania Trump has been living in New York City while their son, Barron, attends New York University, according to the U.K. Daily Mail. Speculation during Trump’s campaign suggested that she might continue spending significant time in New York rather than fully relocating to Washington.
A report from Semafor mentioned that Melania is working with Goldman Sachs executive John F.W. Rogers to establish a team for the East Wing of the White House.
