The House is set to vote on a new continuing resolution (CR) Friday morning in an effort to prevent a partial government shutdown, according to GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida.
Speaking to reporters outside Speaker Mike Johnson’s office, Luna said lawmakers are “very close to a deal” and that the vote could happen at 10 a.m. Friday.
“I do not believe the government is going to be shutting down. You guys will see some great stuff, very similar to President Trump’s plan yesterday,” Luna stated.
She emphasized that “there will be no deals with the Democrats,” indicating a firmly Republican-backed approach to resolving the spending debate.
Legislation supported by Trump aimed at averting a shutdown failed in the House Thursday night. The bill, which required a two-thirds majority to pass, fell short of a simple majority. Two Democrats joined the majority of Republicans to support the measure, while 38 GOP lawmakers voted against it.
