Eastern District of Virginia Prosecutors Target US Attorney Lindsey Halligan with Leaks Following Letitia James Indictment

Eastern District of Virginia prosecutors are once again undermining US Attorney Lindsey Halligan through leaks after she achieved an indictment against Letitia James.

Letitia James, the New York Attorney General, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that James faces two charges: Bank Fraud under 18 U.S.C. Section 1344 and False Statements to a Financial Institution under 18 U.S.C. Section 1014.

Halligan, who recently became the Interim US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, single-handedly secured the indictment against James on Thursday.

Frustrated by Halligan’s recent indictments of James Comey and Letitia James, prosecutors in the Eastern District are leaking information to the media.

According to a recent leak to CNN, US Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche were ‘caught off guard’ by Halligan’s successful indictment of Letitia James.

CNN reported:

Attorney General Pam Bondi was surprised on Thursday when President Donald Trump’s appointed US attorney, Lindsey Halligan, obtained the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James from a grand jury, as per two sources familiar with the situation.

Halligan, who has been in her position for just over two weeks, did not coordinate with Bondi or other Justice Department leaders in Washington, D.C., nor did she inform them about the timing before presenting the case to the grand jury.

The grand jury indicted James on two counts—bank fraud and making false statements—as the Justice Department continues to pursue cases against Trump’s political adversaries.

The Justice Department is undergoing a significant shift as Eastern District prosecutors ‘resist’ Trump and leak information to mainstream media outlets.

Recently, another high-ranking prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia was dismissed.

Last month, President Trump removed Erik Siebert as the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia after he declined to pursue charges against Letitia James, Comey, Schiff, and others.

Shortly after Siebert’s termination, Halligan indicted former FBI Director James Comey.

The Justice Department also dismissed high-ranking prosecutor Maya Song after the ousting of top national security prosecutor Michael Ben’Ary.

Ben’Ary expressed discontent in a letter to colleagues after his firing and encouraged them to continue resisting Trump appointees.

Reports suggest that Yusi is now at risk of termination.
