Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was hospitalized on Wednesday night after suffering a fall at a dinner event, according to a statement from his spokesman, David Popp. Popp said that McConnell had tripped at the event and had been admitted to the hospital with a concussion. The senator is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days for observation and treatment.

McConnell was attending the dinner event for the Senate Leadership Fund, a Republican super PAC aligned with McConnell and GOP leadership, at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington when the incident occurred. Two senators who attended the event told NBC News that McConnell had fallen.
