A recent CNN survey analyzing President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address reveals concerning indicators for the administration.
Despite the White House highlighting a favorable top-line result, with 65% of respondents expressing an overall positive reaction to the speech, deeper examination uncovers warning signs, especially when compared to historical data on past State of the Union addresses.
Journalists and analysts pointed out these red flags, noting a decline in viewers’ reception compared to previous years. For instance, Ben Domenech from The Spectator World highlighted a consistent decrease in net positive reactions to Biden’s speeches since he took office, with the latest address marking his lowest performance yet.
Similarly, Washington Post reporter Aaron Blake emphasized that the overall positive reception of 65% was lower than any State of the Union address polled by CNN in the past quarter-century.
Blake also highlighted that the percentage of viewers offering a “very” positive review was effectively tied with Biden’s previous year’s speech, marking a record low.
These observations suggest a notable shift in public sentiment regarding Biden’s addresses to Congress, raising concerns for the administration moving forward.
