Kamala Harris Gets Cold Response from Audience on Story About Her Mother

A post circulating on X alleges that Vice President Kamala Harris made a statement saying, “These Trumpers think we care about the constitution.”

Verdict: False
There is no evidence that Harris ever made this statement. The alleged quote cannot be found on any of her social media accounts or in any credible news reports.

Fact Check:
During the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton spoke about breaking the “highest, hardest glass ceiling,” expressing her belief that Harris could succeed where she couldn’t in 2016. Unlike Clinton’s campaign, Harris has not focused heavily on her gender, though Clinton believes her efforts made progress, according to the BBC.

The post on X claims to show a quote from Harris dated Jan. 21, 2021, in which she allegedly dismisses the U.S. Constitution. The quote reads: “These Trumpers think we care about the constitution.” The rest of the supposed quote includes: “We have the power now, it’s time to end this. They really don’t get it. We will block them in the courts, we will use federal law enforcement and the military. After Joe inflicts the death blow, I’ll take the reins. They will beg me for a loaf of bread.”

This quote is not authentic. There are no credible news reports or records on her social media accounts that suggest Harris made such remarks. Furthermore, in her first speech as vice president on Jan. 20, 2021, there is no mention of these statements in the White House transcript.

This false claim has circulated before and was debunked by Check Your Fact in January 2021. It was also debunked by Reuters.
