A former Republican governor from New Jersey has publicly declared his intent to tail former President Donald Trump across the United States if Trump persists in avoiding participation in Republican primary debates.
This announcement was made by presidential candidate Chris Christie during a recent interview with Howard Kurtz on the Fox News show “Media Buzz.”
Kurtz posed a question about whether Trump’s decision to abstain from the debate stage and cite his substantial national polling lead had undermined Christie’s strategy of engaging in direct debates with him.
In response, Christie stated, “Well, should he opt out of all debates, Howie, we will extend another opportunity. I’m confident he won’t attend the Reagan debate, so we’ll provide another chance in Alabama.”
Christie continued, “However, if he chooses not to attend there as well, then I am committed to trailing him across the entire country. Wherever he travels, I will be there, and inevitably, we will engage in dialogue in one way or another. He is well aware of this.”
When asked if he would adjust his travel plans to follow the 45th president, Christie affirmed his readiness to do so.
Last month, Trump, aged 77, publicly announced his decision to forgo participating in Republican Party primary debates. However, it remains uncertain whether this decision applies to all future debates or only the initial ones, as reported by the Daily Wire. Trump subsequently posted on his Truth account, “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”
Earlier in the day, Ronna McDaniel, Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), expressed her lingering hope that President Trump would engage in debates, stressing the importance of the American people hearing from all the candidates.
