The White House has defended Joe Biden’s brief decision to wear a pro-Donald Trump hat at a 9/11 memorial event with Pennsylvania firefighters.
Photos circulated on social media showing the President wearing a “Trump 2024” hat just hours after the presidential debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. During the debate, Trump joked about sending Harris a MAGA hat for continuing Trump-era trade tariffs and claimed that Biden “hated” Harris for the circumstances that led to her dropping out of the race.
At the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, Biden met with firefighters, many of whom were Trump supporters. After some lighthearted teasing about his age, Biden offered an autographed presidential cap in exchange for a Trump hat. When the crowd urged him to wear the hat, Biden responded, “I ain’t going that far,” before briefly donning the pro-Trump cap, which was met with cheers.
The situation highlighted a stark contrast. While liberals often portray Trump as a modern-day villain, Republicans, even those who view Biden as the worst president, still show him respect in person—whether deserved or not.
Biden was later photographed with children, many of whom were wearing pro-Trump t-shirts.
The Trump campaign quickly shared the image and thanked Biden “for the support” in a photo that went viral.
Shortly after, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates defended Biden’s action. “At the Shanksville Fire Station, [President Biden] spoke about the country’s bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that,” Bates wrote on X. “As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter, who then suggested POTUS should wear his Trump cap. He briefly wore it.”
However, many conservatives on social media remained skeptical of the White House’s explanation, with some referencing Trump’s claim that Biden despises Harris.
