Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán predicts a new “golden age” under Donald Trump’s leadership, while claiming that the Democrat-Soros alliance is shifting its focus to Europe. Orbán harshly criticized former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman, calling him “a hoodlum” who spent his term unsuccessfully attempting to undermine Hungary’s democratically elected government.
Orbán shared his thoughts on Twitter on January 18:
“The victory of @realDonaldTrump is a huge defeat for the whole Soros network. Now it’s our turn: 2025 is a pivotal year for removing the influence of the Soros network from Brussels and from Europe.”
In an interview on Kossuth Radio on January 17, just before Trump’s inauguration, Orbán stated:
“George Soros has lost the battle in America. I’d say that America has been liberated by Donald Trump, and Soros’s troops have now retreated to Brussels. So we Europeans are now facing a very difficult time: they’re embedding themselves in Brussels.”
He likened this movement to a similar exodus in 2016 after Trump’s first election:
“The Democrats fled to Brussels. Now the same thing is happening again.”
Orbán emphasized that if Hungary wants to preserve its independence, they must “push them out of Brussels. They must be put on a boat and sent home to America.” He warned that failing to do so would result in Brussels becoming “the new Washington,” pursuing policies detrimental to Europe and Hungary.
Orbán highlighted his primary foreign policy goal for 2025:
“The most important foreign policy goal is to push the Soros Empire out of Europe. Hungary will likely be the first country to take on this fight. This is my firmly held goal for this year.”
He criticized Brussels for isolating the EU from the rest of the world:
“They criticized President @realDonaldTrump during the election campaign, consider China a ‘systemic rival,’ and have closed communication with Russia, all while lecturing other nations.”
Addressing corruption, Orbán remarked that much of the Soros network’s influence is funded by Brussels:
“Today the Soros network is financed to a considerable extent from the Brussels budget. This is the biggest corruption scandal in politics: Brussels is in Soros’s pocket. It’s our money, and it mustn’t be given to them.”
On Twitter, he called for a new movement:
“The executive orders signed by President @realDonaldTrump will transform not only the US but the entire world. The rebellion against woke liberal democracy has entered a new stage. The time has come for patriotic forces to occupy Brussels!”
Regarding former U.S. Ambassador David Pressman, Orbán called him:
“A hoodlum whose job was to beat Hungary into submission by pushing a globalist, liberal agenda – one that’s pro-migration, pro-gender, and willing to use war to spread its values.”
Pressman, who left office on January 13, was accused by Orbán of attempting to channel U.S. funds into overthrowing Hungary’s government. Orbán dismissed sanctions imposed by Pressman as “petty revenge” and argued they had strengthened Hungary’s resolve and its government.
Orbán spoke optimistically about Hungary’s relationship with Trump’s United States:
“President Trump and I have come to an agreement for a fantastic, ambitious golden age in US–Hungarian relations. This will be felt in everyday life and family budgets.”
He expressed hope that Hungary’s economic rebound in January, after years of global conflict and instability, was only the beginning:
“On Monday (Trump’s inauguration), a new era will begin.”
