The Department of Agriculture has decided to suspend federal funding to Minnesota as the state confronts issues related to fraud and the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that approximately $130 million in aid will be withheld “until sufficient proof has been provided that the fraud has stopped.”

“Enough is enough! The Trump administration has uncovered MASSIVE fraud in Minnesota and Minneapolis—billions siphoned off by fraudsters. And those in charge have ZERO plan to fix it,” Rollins stated on X.
“No more handouts to thieves! Time to drain the Minnesota swamp and put American taxpayers first,” she added.
In her letter to Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Rollins detailed the reasons for the funding suspension, referencing the Feeding Our Future fraud, alleged misuse of the Small Business Administration Paycheck Protection program, and fraud in daycare facilities.
She requested justification for any future federal spending and a report on expenditures made since January 20, 2025.
“While your Administrations have turned a blind eye to documented fraud, the Trump administration has made clear that fraud, waste, and abuse are unacceptable. The American people deserve to know that their taxpayer dollars are helping those in need — not criminals,” she concluded.

Rollins’ decision faced immediate backlash from Minnesota Democrats, who threatened legal action against her.
“I will not allow you to take from Minnesotans in need. I’ll see you in court, @SecRollins,” Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison wrote on X.
The suspension of funds affects around 450,000 individuals on SNAP in the state, who rely on this assistance for food purchases. Rollins accused state officials of concealing fraud within the program.

This funding withdrawal coincides with the ongoing turmoil in the state following the death of a woman who struck an ICE officer with her SUV in Minneapolis before being shot and killed, leading to protests over the incident.
