Former President Donald Trump visited a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania to challenge Vice President Kamala Harris’s claim that she worked there during college.
On Sunday, Trump worked the fry counter and handed out meals to customers in the drive-thru as “compliments of Trump” at a McDonald’s in Feasterville-Trevose. Crowds gathered along Street Road in Lower Southampton Township, hoping to receive their order from the former president.
“I’ll just take whatever he gives me,” one man told The New York Post.
Trump’s visit comes as part of an effort to question Harris’s claims that she worked at McDonald’s in the 1980s. “I’m going because she lied,” Trump teased on “Fox and Friends” last week, promising to “do everything” when working in the kitchen.
Harris, 60, has frequently mentioned her time at McDonald’s to highlight her middle-class background, contrasting it with Trump’s wealth. Her campaign stated she worked at the cash register, fry station, and ice cream machine at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, in 1983, during her college years.
“Part of the reason I even talk about having worked at McDonald’s is because there are people who work at McDonald’s in our country who are trying to raise a family,” Harris told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle. “I worked there as a student.”
Trump, however, has questioned the authenticity of her claim, pointing out that Harris’s 1987 resume didn’t mention the McDonald’s job and noting the lack of corroborating evidence. Harris’s campaign has responded, accusing Trump of making baseless accusations.
The McDonald’s owner, Derek Giacomantonio, said, “It is a fundamental value of my organization that we proudly open our doors to everyone who visits the Feasterville community.” He added that he welcomed Trump’s request “to observe the transformative working experience that 1 in 8 Americans have had: a job at McDonald’s.”
When asked about his visit, Trump said, “I’m going for a job right now at McDonald’s,” adding, “I really wanted to do this all my life.”
Later that day, Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and attend the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the New York Jets at Acrisure Stadium.
