President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday issued a stern warning to BRICS nations considering a shift away from the U.S. dollar, threatening “100% tariffs” on their exports to the United States.
“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social.
“We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy.”
BRICS, representing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has emerged as a significant economic and geopolitical bloc challenging the dominance of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations led by the United States. The coalition’s influence has expanded with the recent inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
