Mark Burnett, the award-winning British television producer and creator of popular programs such as Survivor, Shark Tank, and The Voice, has been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump as the U.S. Special Envoy to the United Kingdom. Trump announced the appointment on Saturday, describing Burnett as uniquely suited for the role due to his blend of business expertise and global recognition.
“With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role,” Trump said on Truth Social.
Burnett is best known for his work with Trump on The Apprentice, which debuted on NBC in 2004 and showcased Trump’s business persona to millions of viewers. The collaboration helped elevate Trump’s public profile ahead of his 2016 presidential campaign.
“Mark will work to enhance diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges. Congratulations Mark!” Trump added.
Burnett is set to work alongside Warren Stephens, Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to Britain, pending Senate confirmation. The United Kingdom remains one of the United States’ closest allies, enjoying a “special relationship” rooted in shared history and mutual strategic interests.
Additional Appointments
Trump also announced several other high-profile nominations for his second term.
David Fink, a fifth-generation railroader with over 45 years of experience in the transportation industry, has been nominated as the next administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Fink’s leadership is expected to address challenges such as aging infrastructure, shifting freight markets, and increased safety concerns after incidents like the East Palestine, Ohio, derailment of 2023.
“David will bring his 45+ years of transportation leadership and success, which will deliver the FRA into a new era of safety and technological innovation,” Trump said. “Under David’s guidance, the Federal Railroad Administration will be GREAT again.”
Casino magnate Tilman Fertitta has been nominated as U.S. ambassador to Italy, while Chad Mizelle, who served as general counsel and chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security during Trump’s first administration, has been selected as chief of staff for the Department of Justice.
“Chad is a MAGA warrior who will help bring accountability, integrity, and Justice back to the DOJ,” Trump declared.
Florida state Sen. Joe Gruters, another Trump ally, has been endorsed by the president-elect for the position of RNC treasurer.
These appointments come as Trump prepares to take office on January 20, 2025, signaling a return to his vision of leadership and governance.
