The image of First Lady Jill Biden presiding over President Joe Biden’s first Cabinet meeting in almost a year was a focal point at Donald Trump’s rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday.
“I don’t know, is he still the president? I’m trying to figure it out,” Trump quipped to his supporters, with his remarks broadcast live on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform. “You know, I hate to waste the time by saying it.”
According to Trump, President Joe Biden was forced to step back as the Democratic nominee under the alleged threat of the 25th Amendment, leaving his wife to take charge of the Cabinet meeting.
“I don’t know: Is he the president, because yesterday his wife took over the Cabinet meeting, right?” Trump continued. “He said, ‘I’m going to ask my wife to take it.'”
Exaggerating for his enthusiastic crowd, Trump joked, “He hasn’t had a Cabinet meeting in like two years, and yesterday, they finally had one, and he said, ‘I’m going to let Jill handle it. We will manage.'” The last Cabinet meeting was actually held on October 2, 2023, nearly a year ago.
“A lot of things are happening. There are a lot of bad things happening,” Trump added.
He also promoted his tax-cutting plan to North Carolina voters, highlighting the state as a potential battleground alongside Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Wisconsin.
“We will massively cut taxes for workers,” Trump stated. “There will be no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security benefits for our great seniors.”
“And it makes sense because seniors have been hurt so badly by inflation. So we’re going to cut inflation. We’ll eliminate taxes on Social Security for seniors. And to help working Americans catch up, we’ll put a temporary 10% cap on credit card interest rates.”
