U.S. President-elect Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s decision to fly flags at half-staff through inauguration day.
On Truth Social, Trump stated that Democrats are “giddy” about the decision, adding that “no American can be happy about” the symbolism. Biden announced a 30-day period of flag-lowering to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter, set to last until January 28th. Trump, as incoming president, has the authority to end the period sooner.
Trump also criticized Democrats, asserting they “only think about themselves” and do not truly love the country.
The controversy arises as Vice President Kamala Harris is set to preside over Congress on Monday, January 6, to certify the Electoral College results, formalizing her loss against Trump.
Additionally, Harris faced criticism for reportedly failing to recite the opening words of the Pledge of Allegiance during a recent event.
