Former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign has maintained a low profile regarding his recent debate against President Joe Biden, which has intensified calls for Biden to step aside as the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Despite Biden facing significant pressure to withdraw in favor of another candidate, Trump’s campaign has chosen not to focus on Biden’s struggles.
Former Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Ohio, noted that Trump’s decision to stay out of the fray is strategic, suggesting that when an opponent is self-destructing, it’s wise not to interfere.
He praised Trump’s discipline on the issue, highlighting it as a marked improvement from his 2020 campaign behavior.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., observed that Trump is becoming more restrained in public and mentioned Trump’s recent conciliatory gesture toward Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., despite their past conflicts. Mullin pointed out that Trump’s new approach demonstrates a shift in his leadership style.
Mullin also remarked that Trump should be cautious in his criticisms of Biden, as excessive attacks might come across as bullying, given the perception of Biden’s mental state.
This consideration underscores the campaign’s careful balancing act in its strategy.
