President-elect Donald Trump on Monday accused President Biden and the Pentagon of concealing information regarding large drones spotted hovering over New Jersey and New York.
“The government knows what is happening,” Trump, 78, said after Biden’s representatives claimed ignorance, despite thousands of Garden State and New York City residents observing— and in some cases photographing— the drones.
“Look, our military knows where they took off from — if it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason they don’t want to comment,” Trump said during a 70-minute press conference in Palm Beach, Florida. “And I think they’d be better off saying what it is. Our military knows and our president knows. And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense.”
“I can’t imagine it’s the enemy,” Trump continued. “Because if it was the enemy, they’d blast it out — even if they were late, they’d blast it.”
“Something strange is going on,” Trump also remarked. “For some reason, they don’t want to tell the people, and they should.”
In a lighter moment, Trump mentioned that he would cancel his planned weekend visit to Bedminster, New Jersey. “They’re very close to Bedminster. I think maybe I won’t spend the weekend in Bedminster. I’ve decided to cancel my trip,” he joked.
Trump declined to comment on whether he had received a briefing regarding the drones, which have fueled widespread fear and speculation.
White House spokesperson John Kirby last week stated that federal authorities, along with state and local law enforcement, have been unable to corroborate any of the reported sightings.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) urged for transparency, asserting that the public had a right to know the truth. “New Yorkers have tremendous questions about [the drones]. We are going to get the answers,” he said Sunday.
The White House and Pentagon did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment.
