Dr. Victor Davis Hanson, a distinguished Hoover Institution senior fellow, has offered his prediction for the 2024 presidential race, anticipating a victory for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Hanson shared his insights on “The Victor Davis Hanson Show” podcast, citing Harris’ diminishing public perception as a critical factor that could swing voters away from her. While polls fluctuate between Trump and Harris, Hanson believes that over time, voters have formed a negative view of Harris’ character. He remarked, “I think it’s now got to that summation, that people understand that there’s no ‘there’ there, she’s just an empty pants suit — she really is. I think she’s gonna lose, I really do.”
Though I greatly respect Dr. Hanson’s analysis, I diverge slightly in my critique of Harris. Where he notes flaws in her character, I’d argue that the vice president lacks character altogether, acting with pure expediency, without strong convictions or principles. She has consistently said whatever seems expedient in the moment, giving the public little reason to trust her authenticity.
Nonetheless, Hanson’s assessment of Harris’ lack of substance resonates, and his prediction is that Trump may win by a narrow margin in key swing states, a “close landslide,” as he calls it. He speculates that Trump could defeat Harris by a slim difference of around 40,000 to 50,000 votes in seven critical battleground states.
