Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a comprehensive immigration bill into law, aimed at strengthening federal deportation efforts and enforcing strict measures against illegal immigration within the state.
The legislation includes a budget of approximately $298 million to hire more than 50 additional law enforcement officers focused on immigration enforcement. It also provides grants for equipping and training local agencies, offers bonuses for officers assisting in federal operations, and funds the leasing of detention facilities.
Ron DeSantis stated: “Well, I just want to thank the leaders once again for their hard work on this and also point out that we have had a lot of success in Florida. There are always people, and I meet many legislators from other states who come here asking what’s going on with all of this. And we have had the opportunity to work with incredible people. But Ben and the Speaker of the House have been with me since day one. They weren’t necessarily in leadership positions at the time, but they have played a key role in all these accomplishments. So I really appreciate that. I appreciate Landon for this project. And guys, get ready, because this is just the beginning. We are going to get to work. You’re going to see a lot of things happening very quickly.”
