With just over two weeks until Election Day, the media narrative continues to suggest that Vice President Kamala Harris has all the momentum heading into the final stretch, likely aiming to discourage supporters of the Trump-Vance ticket and suppress voter turnout.
However, as the saying goes, “the devil is in the details,” and those details show that the momentum has gradually shifted toward GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. For the first time this election cycle, Trump leads in polling across all battleground states, according to RealClearPolitics averages.
Further supporting this shift is data from CNN’s polling analyst Harry Enten, who stands out for his commitment to providing accurate information, even as some of his colleagues push different narratives. In a Friday morning segment on CNN News Central, Enten highlighted how Trump’s net favorability has significantly improved since 2016, despite opposition from the media, the left, and NeverTrump Republicans. This improvement could explain why Harris has been more aggressive in attacking Trump recently.
Enten explained that Harris’ momentum appears to have “stalled,” which could be another reason for her recent attacks:
“I think there are a lot of folks such as myself who think Donald Trump’s unpopularity is baked in. But here’s the deal: If you believe that Donald Trump has somehow become less popular over time, let me change your mind about that. In fact, he is more popular at this point in the campaign than he was at this point in the 2020 campaign or the 2016 campaign. Look, he’s still underwater with a negative nine-point net favorability rating, but that is higher than he was in 2020, when he nearly won, and it is way higher than it was in 2016, when he did win. So I think there’s this real question in Kamala Harris’ mind, in the campaign’s mind, why is Trump more popular now than he was at this point in 2020 and 2016.”
Though there’s little time left before November 5th, the race remains volatile. Anything could still happen to dramatically alter its course. This makes it crucial for the Trump campaign to continue pushing hard, acting as though they are behind, to ensure they leave nothing on the table—and hopefully, secure a victory.
