Senator John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her speaking skills following her speech at the 2023 Essence Festival of Culture on June 20.
In reference to a particular portion of Harris’ address, which was widely seen as lacking clarity, Senator Kennedy suggested that her communication abilities could use improvement. The Daily Wire reported on this incident.
The Louisiana Republican expressed his opinion that Vice President Harris should strive for more authenticity in her verbal expressions. He believed that being true to herself would enhance the clarity and effectiveness of her public speeches.
“She’s struggling for a couple of reasons,” Kennedy said about the Vice-President’s many publicized speeches that end up being called “word salad”. “Number one, she doesn’t appear to be prepared.”
“Number two, no matter how well-prepared you are, you have to be able to express yourself,” he continued. “And with respect, I would say the vice president needs to work on being a little more articulate.”
“Some might say that based on her performances that English is not her first, second, third, or even fourth language.”
In addition, the senator offered a piece of advice that emphasized the importance of authenticity when speaking in public. He stated that one should always be true to oneself, unless their performance is subpar. In such a situation, he suggested making an effort to improve. Senator Kennedy expressed his belief that Vice President Harris did not appear to be genuinely herself.
“She’s trying to sound smart instead of just saying what she believes and saying it in a clear articulate manner that the average American who’s busy can understand,” Kennedy said.
The video of Vice President Harris’ speech at the Essence Festival of Culture attracted significant attention, leading critics to question her ability to communicate effectively.
According to a report from American Wire News, Senator Kennedy’s critique struck a chord with many individuals who believe that those in national leadership positions should demonstrate a high level of verbal articulation.
This is not the first instance in which Vice President Harris has faced criticism regarding her public speaking abilities.
VP Harris has a history of delivering inarticulate statements and has been subject to scrutiny for what some perceive as insufficient preparation in her public addresses.
