Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., secured the position of Senate majority leader on Wednesday after a second round of voting.
Thune defeated Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., and John Cornyn, R-Texas, in the leadership race. In the first round, Scott was eliminated after receiving 13 votes, while Cornyn received 15 and Thune led with 23, according to Fox News.
There were also two write-in votes.
According to Punchbowl News, Thune ultimately won with a 29-24 vote.
