The unexpected news of the passing of the renowned “Friends” actor, Matthew Perry, on Saturday has left many in shock and sorrow.
At the age of 54, Perry had grappled with substance abuse issues over the years. Initial reports suggested that he had drowned in a hot tub, although the official cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
Ione Skye, who had worked alongside Perry in his 1988 debut film, “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,” has disclosed what could be one of the last texts from Perry. Perry had texted her a few days before his passing.
Skye shared several screenshots of Perry’s recent text messages:
“Hi! I hope all is well. I was meditating (I meditate now),” Perry wrote. “[As I was meditating] ‘In Your Eyes’ started playing. And I instantly thought of how beautiful you are.”
Perry was referring to Peter Gabriel’s song featured in Skye’s 1989 film, “Say Anything.”
Skye responded with affection, saying, “Awe. I love that. Xo.”
Perry continued, expressing his hope for her well-being, “hope you are healthy and happy.”
Skye concluded the exchange with words of warmth, stating, “It was good to hear from you” and reminiscing that “I only have nice memories with you.”
Perry’s final words to her were heartfelt: “Me too. That one afternoon, I was just sitting in my apartment, and there you were!”
Skye added a caption to her last screenshot, “My last exchange a week ago. I’m very very sad. Loved this guy,” expressing her sadness for his passing.
In his book titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry expressed his desire to be remembered for the way he supported and helped others, even when he faced challenges in his own life.
Perry shared his story and personal insights in a compelling interview with Tom Power:
Perry holds a special place in the hearts of numerous individuals. Actress Mira Sorvino expressed her sentiments on X, saying, “There will never be another individual like him. He brought warmth and joy to countless hearts in various ways. Wishing him a peaceful journey to Paradise!”
I want to leave Matthew Perry’s own words here as the way we remember him. There will never be another like him- he lit up so many hearts in so many ways. Godspeed to Paradise! pic.twitter.com/rUYSeD7tW0
