Rep. Nancy Mace confronted a transgender activist who was removed from a tech conference after protesting her proposed bathroom bill, later referring to the individual as a “raging lunatic, pretending to be female.”
The South Carolina Republican shared a video Thursday showing Evan Greer, a transgender activist, waving an LGBTQ flag and interrupting Mace’s appearance at Georgetown University’s “Summit on the Future of the Internet.” Greer protested Mace’s bill, which aims to bar transgender women from using female-only facilities on Capitol Hill.
While being escorted out by security, Greer shouted, “We’ve had dozens of trans people die this year because of the hate and lies you’re spreading.”
“Are you gonna stand up for the lives of trans people? … Are we fighting for justice or are we fighting for big tech?” Greer yelled, receiving some scattered applause.
Mace, who has said she has received death threats over her bathroom bill, remained composed and responded sharply.
“God loves him, I love him — but his penis isn’t gonna be in my bathroom,” Mace said, sharing a similar comment in the caption accompanying the video.
To those booing her remarks, she added, “If you’re pro men watching me undress in a dressing room, you’re part of the problem.”
Mace later addressed the protester, who is also a musician and director of the digital rights group Fight for Freedom.
“A raging lunatic, pretending to be female, tried to rush the stage at me just a little bit ago,” Mace wrote on X. “All because I don’t want men watching women undress in the locker room.”
Greer shared Mace’s post but denied rushing the stage, pointing to the video Mace posted as evidence.
“I stood up and spoke the truth,” Greer said. “You have done absolutely nothing in your career to address the harm and censorship of Big Tech. You’re too busy obsessing over other people’s genitalia. Get a hobby.”
In another post, Greer added, “I would do it again.”
Mace’s appearance came just a day after House Speaker Mike Johnson declared that women’s facilities in the Capitol complex are reserved for biological females.
“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson (R-La.) said in a statement.
“It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol,” he added. “Women deserve women’s only spaces.”
