After securing their party nominations, a recent poll indicates that former President Donald Trump holds a narrow lead over President Biden. Both candidates surpassed the delegate threshold required for their respective parties’ nominations on Tuesday.
Conducted by USA Today in collaboration with Suffolk University, the poll reveals that 40% of respondents favor Trump, while 38% favor Biden.
An important insight from the survey is the significant portion of registered voters open to changing their voting preferences. Roughly 25% of those surveyed expressed willingness to reconsider their vote before the election, with 14% of likely Biden voters and 15% of likely Trump voters admitting to this possibility.
Among the polled individuals, 15% stated dislike for both candidates. Of these, approximately 25% leaned toward Trump, 18% toward Biden, and 44% expressed intentions to vote for third-party candidates.
As both Trump and Biden have effectively secured their nominations, a rematch of the 2020 election seems inevitable. Both candidates have faced considerable disapproval from voters, with their presidencies reflecting similar lukewarm approval ratings.
It remains uncertain whether Biden will accept Trump’s invitation to a public debate, as the administration has avoided addressing the topic thus far.
The survey, conducted from March 8 to 11, polled 1,000 registered voters via cellphone and landline. It reports a margin of error of +/- 3.1%.
