Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas is in full meltdown mode after the Texas GOP introduced a new congressional map that removes her from the district she currently represents.
Known for her fiery rhetoric and headline-grabbing theatrics, Crockett now finds herself outside the lines of her own political turf.
On Friday, Republican State Rep. Todd Hunter released a redistricting proposal that, if enacted, would significantly benefit conservatives. The new map would eliminate five Democrat-held districts across Austin, Dallas, Houston, and South Texas.
One of the most notable changes? Rep. Jasmine Crockett no longer lives within the boundaries of the district she currently serves.
“I currently don’t live in the [Congressional District] 30 that they created… that’s not where I live now,” Crockett said in a video, according to The Grio.
“They are supposed to take that into consideration, and these are some of the things that the court will look at when they’re trying to determine whether or not there were problems with creating the maps. It’s really awful.”
Clearly upset, Crockett called the proposed map a “hot mess” and alleged that the redistricting effort may have been racially motivated. She pointed out that several of the targeted seats are currently held by Black Democrats, including Rep. Al Green, known for his repeated efforts to impeach President Trump and his removal from the House floor during Trump’s address to Congress.
“It is a hot mess, and it is so sad that these people have no integrity and could care less about doing what’s right,” she said.
“They want to exhaust us, and I want us to dig deep and show them even more energy than they could have ever imagined coming from us, us being we, the people,” she added.
“We are the state that actually brought the country Roe v. Wade; it is time for us to rise.”
In a post on X, Crockett wrote:
“Republicans in Texas just rolled out their proposed Congressional map that cut 5 Democratic seats out of thin air. Let’s be clear: these maps are not about representation, it’s a power grab to silence voters and suppress votes.
They know their policies are unpopular, and they are afraid of losing. So what do they try to do? Cheat.
If your big idea is ‘cheat harder,’ maybe it’s time to rethink your politics.”
