According to his mother, the individual accused of murdering Charlie Kirk had developed an affinity for transgender individuals, including his roommate and partner, prior to the violent incident. The mother is currently cooperating with law enforcement after her husband reported their son for the shooting that resulted in Kirk’s death, a well-known conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA.
In discussions with investigators, she noted that her son, Tyler Robinson, had become increasingly politically active in recent years, particularly regarding transgender issues. Court documents reveal that Robinson held progressive views on LGBTQ+ rights, contrasting sharply with those of his grandfather, a registered Republican, leading to heated exchanges.
Robinson reportedly criticized Kirk’s speech at Utah Valley University, labeling it a ‘stupid’ event and accusing Kirk of promoting hate. Prosecutors claim that Robinson targeted Kirk due to his political views and his frequent debates on college campuses.
Following the release of surveillance images of the suspect, Robinson’s father began to suspect their son was involved. Prosecutors reported that when shown the images, he agreed they resembled Tyler. After confronting him, Tyler confessed and surrendered to authorities on the night of September 11.
During discussions, Robinson suggested he was the shooter and expressed a desire to avoid incarceration, stating he wanted to ‘end it.’ When questioned about his motives, he referred to Kirk as someone who ‘spreads too much hate.’
Robinson faces aggravated murder charges for Kirk’s death, along with two counts of obstruction of justice for hiding evidence and two counts of witness tampering for urging his roommate to delete text messages and avoid cooperation with investigators.
He has also been charged with committing violence in the presence of children, with prosecutors indicating they plan to pursue the death penalty. Additional filings suggest that his roommate, Lance Twiggs, may have been aware of Robinson’s intentions to kill Kirk prior to the act. Investigators are examining text messages and Discord conversations with transgender activists to determine if others were involved.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino commented to Fox News, ‘It appears from the data we’ve accumulated that this ideology had infected him and had taken over. He was intent on making Charlie his target and people may have known in advance.’
