A new documentary about Melania Trump, the former and future first lady, is set for release in theaters later this year. The film promises an “unprecedented, behind-the-scenes” look at her life and role, according to an announcement by Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Brett Ratner, Melania is also credited as an executive producer of the project.
“Prime Video will be sharing more details on the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized,” an Amazon spokesperson stated. “We are excited to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world.”
Filming for the documentary began in December, shortly after Donald Trump won the most recent election. Critics have viewed the project as part of an effort by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to repair his relationship with the president-elect, following previous public disagreements. Bezos has reportedly committed to donating $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund and recently traveled to Mar-a-Lago to meet with him.
Melania Trump has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years. However, in September, she gave her first in-depth interview in two years, addressing the assassination attempts on her husband.
“They were miracles, really,” Melania told Ainsley Earhardt. “I think something was watching over him. I think it’s almost like [our] country really needs him.”
Details on the documentary’s release and additional insights into its production are expected to follow as filming continues.
