The renewed scrutiny of the government’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein has sparked rumors regarding his alleged role in introducing Melania Trump to Donald Trump. These speculations were highlighted in a Daily Beast article suggesting that the couple’s marriage hinged on their association with the late financier, who was disgraced for his criminal activities.
Following a review and a letter from Melania’s legal representatives, the publication retracted a report by Michael Wolff on Monday. Wolff had claimed that Epstein facilitated the introduction between Melania and Donald Trump at a high-profile event in the 1990s.
In a podcast, Wolff stated that Epstein had been “very involved” in bringing the couple together, claiming, “She’s introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She’s introduced to Trump that way. Epstein knows her well.” However, Wolff has faced backlash from various media figures for his lack of credibility, and the Daily Beast’s editors appear to have lost confidence in him.
The publication’s statement read, “Upon reflection, we have determined that the article did not meet our standards and has therefore been removed from our platforms.” Additionally, they noted that a segment of a podcast episode titled ‘Trump’s Epstein Scandal Can’t Stop Won’t Stop,’ which mentioned the First Lady, was also taken down. Melania’s memoir, ‘Melania,’ is referenced as the authoritative account of her life.
In her memoir, Melania describes her first encounter with Trump during a 1998 Fashion Week party at the Kit Kat Klub in New York City. She recalls, “I saw my friend wave at someone behind me. When I turned around, I noticed a man and an attractive blonde woman approaching us. ‘Hi. I’m Donald Trump,’ the man said when he reached my table.” This meeting marked the beginning of their relationship.
The renewed attention on Epstein has prompted President Trump and his administration to release additional information in response to pressure from his supporters. Recently, U.S. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) published letters from a ‘birthday book’ linked to Epstein, which allegedly included a letter from Trump. The former president has categorically denied writing the letter or creating its accompanying crude illustration.
