Governor Wes Moore (D-MD) stated on Sunday during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that attributing the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies was “foolishness.”
Host Dana Bash mentioned, “Some Republicans are attempting to attribute the bridge collapse to policies promoting workplace diversity. A Utah state representative, who is running for governor, tweeted, ‘This is what happens when you have governors who prioritize diversity over the well-being and security of citizens.’ Another Republican vying for Congress in Florida posted ‘DEI did this.’ What is your reaction?”
Moore responded, “My reaction is simple: I have no time for such foolishness! I am fully engaged.”
He elaborated, “My focus is on ensuring we provide closure and solace to the affected families, safeguarding the well-being of our first responders who are performing heroically, reopening transportation channels to revive our economy, and initiating the reconstruction of the Key Bridge. I am not entertaining any distractions.”
Moore emphasized, “My priority is solely on ensuring the affected families receive the necessary support and closure, providing assistance to our first responders, restoring transportation channels, and rebuilding the Key Bridge. Frankly, I cannot afford to divert my attention elsewhere. I am committed and focused on the critical tasks at hand.”
