There’s clueless, then there’s abysmally clueless. And then, somewhere beneath that, there’s New York’s own Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
In her latest move, AOC boasted about getting dozens of new trash cans installed along Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, also known as the “Market of Sweethearts.” While the bins are in place, the real trash—prostitution, drug dealing, and gangs—remains untouched.
Residents immediately mocked her effort. “Celebrating garbage cans is like putting sprinkles on s–t and calling it a birthday cake,” said Ramses Frias, a Republican running for City Council in Queens’ 25th District. “It’s all for show.” He added, “Of course, AOC won’t speak about what’s really happening here so she can keep up the facade that her district is amazing and a paradise.”
Critics point out that while local law enforcement is not technically a congressional duty, a representative still has a strong voice in their district. Queens residents say they’ve been left with nothing but empty trash cans, while prostitution, gangs, and illegal street vendors—exacerbated by the city’s migrant crisis—continue to thrive. Some locals have even asked the FBI to investigate alleged organized crime ties in the area.
Meanwhile, AOC has been busy attending Met galas and campaigning with Senator Bernie Sanders to promote socialism, rather than addressing the rising crime in her district.
Her constituents have long accused her of ignoring local issues while mugging for national attention. “Government really only has one legitimate role: to protect the liberty and property of the citizenry. In that, AOC, along with city and state officials, have utterly failed,” wrote one critic.
And yet, some Democrats see her as a potential presidential contender in 2028. To that, many Republicans can only hope Democrats will be “so foolish as to nominate this nitwit.”
