Kamala Harris has faced criticism from both sides for not providing clear policy positions on her campaign website. However, she has now posted an “Issues” page — likely in anticipation of Tuesday’s debate, giving her a platform to refer viewers to instead of addressing specific policies during the debate.
The new issues page reads: “Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for a New Way Forward that protects our fundamental freedoms, strengthens our democracy, and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead. As a prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and now Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris always stood up for the people against predators, scammers, and powerful interests. She promises to be a president for all Americans, a president who unites us around our highest aspirations, and a president who always fights for the American people. From the courthouse to the White House, that has been her life’s work.”
A glance at the page reveals it’s filled with fluff, exaggerated stories about her background, and repeated jabs at Trump. In the economic policy section, it states: “Vice President Harris grew up in a middle-class home as the daughter of a working mom.” This gives a false impression that Harris came from humble beginnings, as her mother was actually a biomedical scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and her father was a Marxist economics professor at Stanford University.
Notably, Trump’s name appears 29 times throughout the page, including in sections dedicated to “Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda,” even though Trump has no direct connection to the Project 2025 agenda. By contrast, Trump’s own platform spans sixteen pages and mentions Biden only seven times, mostly in reference to specific policies.
Perhaps the most laughable part of Harris’s policy page is the section on securing the borders. “Vice President Harris and Governor Walz believe in tough, smart solutions to secure the border, keep communities safe, and reform our broken immigration system,” the page declares. It goes on to tout her support of a bipartisan border security bill, which, according to the page, would have strengthened border security by deploying more detection technology, adding 1,500 border security agents, and seizing record amounts of fentanyl. The page claims Trump “killed the border deal for his political gain,” but asserts that border crossings are now at the lowest level in four years.
We’ve heard these exaggerated claims about the border security bill before, and it’s unsurprising to see her padding the policy page with recycled talking points. However, one truth does slip through: “As President, she will bring back the bipartisan border security bill and sign it into law. At the same time, she knows that our immigration system is broken and needs comprehensive reform that includes strong border security and an earned pathway to citizenship.”
And there it is! Harris has no intention of deporting the illegal immigrants who have entered the country during her tenure as Border Czar; instead, she plans to offer them a pathway to citizenship.
