How bad are the tensions between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden? It seems pretty significant, and the comments made by Harris spokesman Ian Sams during an interview with Neil Cavuto only seem to confirm it.
When given the opportunity on Fox News to address the issue, Sams didn’t dismiss the concerns. Instead, he shifted the conversation to Donald Trump and Mike Pence, avoiding the direct question.
SAMS: “Well, I think, first and foremost, when you think about tensions between a president and vice president, you’ve got to think about January 6th when President Trump let his supporters chant, ‘Hang Mike Pence,’ and Mike Pence doesn’t even support President Trump’s campaign…”
CAVUTO: “I understand that, Ian, but to answer my question, is there tension now between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden?”
SAMS: “Well, look, I think that when Vice President Harris is out there on the stump, and she’s answering voter questions, and she’s answering questions from reporters like Bret and yourself every day, she’s answering the question to say, ‘I’m running as my own candidate.’”
Sams had two clear opportunities to simply say, “No, there’s no tension, and the president fully supports the vice president.” But instead, he deflected to January 6th and then reiterated that Harris is her “own candidate.”
It’s hard to imagine an easier question for a spokesperson, yet Sams refused to outright deny the reports of tension, which have included quotes from inside the Harris camp. His avoidance speaks volumes.
Is Biden actively sabotaging Harris’ campaign? It doesn’t seem that extreme, but he has certainly been indifferent to how his words and actions impact her. He has repeatedly linked her to his policies, even when he could have supported her narrative of independence. Recently, he directly undermined her attacks on Ron DeSantis, leaving her exposed.
There’s clearly something happening behind the scenes, and it’s not difficult to see why. Biden feels betrayed, and he’s made that clear publicly. While Harris has tried to distance herself from the scheming that pushed Biden aside, she is the one who ultimately benefited. Even if Biden is not as sharp as he once was, he likely suspects she played a role in the maneuvering that sidelined him.
Why the Harris campaign won’t fully deny these tensions remains a mystery. It’s not as if they haven’t lied about other things before. Sams could have easily told Cavuto, “No,” but the reluctance suggests they fear internal leaks if they overplay their hand.
