Former Vice President Kamala Harris posted a TikTok video on Thursday denying that she has been relaxing and drinking since disappearing from the public eye following her loss in the 2024 presidential election.
Harris appeared to be participating in the “Who Said That” TikTok trend, where users speak off-camera with their mouths obscured to create a playful sense of mystery. However, in her attempt, Harris failed to hide her mouth with her hand, making it visible throughout the video. In the clip, which also served to promote her upcoming book, she insisted she has been hard at work rather than vacationing.
“Everyone thinks you’ve been kicking back, drinking margaritas on the beach, but really you’ve been hard at work writing a book, meeting with leaders, thinking about the future of our country,” Harris said, speaking while facing away from the camera.
“Who said that?” she added with a laugh, turning back to face the lens.
In a separate statement posted Wednesday on X, Harris announced that she would not run for governor of California, following speculation about whether she might enter that race or pursue a 2028 presidential bid. She stated she looked forward to “helping elect Democrats” across the country and would “share more details in the months ahead” regarding her plans.
Harris had briefly launched a presidential campaign in 2024 after President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed her on July 21. She ultimately lost to Donald Trump, failing to win the popular vote or any of the seven key swing states.
On Thursday, Harris revealed on X that she has written a book about her campaign experience titled 107 Days, which is scheduled to be released in September.
Comedian Kareem Rahma also recalled a peculiar interview with Harris during the campaign, which he chose not to publish. Speaking in a resurfaced March appearance on the Forbes Top Creators Show, Rahma described the encounter on his “Subway Takes” show.
“Her take was really confusing and weird and not good. And so we mutually agreed that we shouldn’t publish it,” Rahma said. “And I got lucky because I didn’t want to be blamed for her losing.”
