Kamala Harris has been labeled a radical advocate for strict gun control. A resurfaced 2007 video shows the then-San Francisco District Attorney stating her intent to forcibly enter homes to ensure that legal gun owners were properly storing their firearms.

During a press conference about anti-gun legislation she helped craft with then-San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Harris stated, “Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.”
Harris also said, “When we create laws, it’s not only about prosecuting someone for committing a crime, but more importantly, when we legislate our values, it’s about encouraging certain types of behavior.”

Fox News reported on the legislation, which imposed penalties for improper firearm storage and included additional gun control measures, such as requiring gun distributors to submit regular inventories to the police and banning guns in public housing.
Harris has previously expressed support for firearm confiscation, calling it a “great idea,” and pledged to take executive action if Congress doesn’t act within the first 100 days of her administration. On Tuesday, she reiterated her call for an “assault weapons” ban, despite the controversial nature of the term.
