Speculation has circulated in recent weeks about comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan regularly attending church, suggesting a possible turn toward Christianity.
Theologian Wesley Huff, who appeared on Rogan’s podcast in January, later disclosed in May that Rogan had been in contact with him to discuss matters of faith, describing Rogan’s church attendance as a “consistent thing.” Huff described Rogan as highly curious and said they had been discussing scripture, though Rogan had not publicly addressed the matter until now.
‘They’re all just trying to be better people …’
During episode 2333 of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan confirmed that he has been going to church, sharing the information with fellow comedians Shane Gillis, Mark Normand, and Ari Shaffir.
Normand raised the topic of sobriety over two hours into the podcast—an unusual shift in a show often known for its heavy drinking. Rogan revealed he had been sober for three months. As the group joked about health issues like gout, Normand followed up with a question about the church rumors.
“Wait, are you going to church, too, or is that bulls**t?” Normand asked.
“I have been to church,” Rogan answered. “Why? Have you ever been to church before?” he responded.
“I’ve been,” Normand said.
Rogan went on to share his positive take on the experience.
“It’s actually very nice; they’re all just trying to be better people,” he said. “It’s a good vibe.”
Gillis brought up his own visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and asked if Rogan had been attending a Catholic church.
“I tried that; I did that,” Rogan replied, though he didn’t clarify when or how often he had attended a Catholic Mass.
Normand pressed further, asking, “If it’s not Catholic, which one is it?”
“It’s just a Christian church,” Rogan explained.
Shaffir, who is Jewish, suggested that Rogan was attending a “non-denominational Christian church,” but Rogan didn’t confirm or elaborate. The comedians then joked about Rogan attending Joel Osteen’s church and losing money through donations.
“Yeah, I’m just giving all my money to Osteen,” Rogan said with a laugh before the conversation shifted to an article about gout.
Chris Enloe, faith editor at Blaze News, commented on Rogan’s openness about church.
“Rogan’s confirmation that he is attending church is a testament to the witness of faithful Christians who have appeared on his show over the years,” Enloe said. “His openness toward Christianity and church is evidence of the humility he has demonstrated in those conversations over the years.”
Enloe also expressed hope that Christians would pray for Rogan and that the comedian would continue to share his journey with listeners in some form.
