Donald Trump made a bold choice in picking JD Vance as his vice president — and Americans across the nation are beginning to see why. Vance isn’t just incredibly smart and likable; he’s miles away from the “weird” label Democrats tried to pin on him. His recent interview with comedian Theo Von proves it.
When Theo joked about the fentanyl crisis, saying, “You can’t even do cocaine in this country anymore,” Vance burst out laughing. Theo added, “Don’t say that, but I said it. But don’t say that any more,” as Vance continued to laugh.
Theo then joked about a recent AA meeting, saying, “Dude, I was in an AA meeting, some guy had a fishhook stuck in his freaking cheek, dude… But he had two weeks clean.” Vance replied, “He either had a really bad night or a really good night,” before Theo, still laughing, took it further, saying, “Catch and release. He probably tried to come across the border,” to which Vance laughed again.
This playful banter was mixed with serious moments, offering a glimpse into the kind of person Vance truly is. Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” remarked, “You can see, JD, even with his white T-shirt and his light blue jeans, he’s kind of a dork. But he can joke around, and it’s humanizing and real, in contrast to what we’ve seen with Tim Walz trying to shoot a gun and all of just everything they’ve done with Kamala to try to make her look real.”
While the humanizing side of the interview was refreshing, Vance also tackled serious issues, discussing the obesity and fentanyl crises in depth with Theo. Rubin commented, “It contrasts just like the silly stuff and then a command of the issue… China has declared war on us; we know what they’re doing. JD just laid it out there.”
Rubin continued, “And he’s not calling on our troops; he goes out of his way to say, ‘We shouldn’t be sending troops into Mexico, but how about we just close the damn wall, close the damn border.’” Rubin noted that, from America’s health to border strength, the “level of competency” a Trump administration could bring is unmatched.
“I just thought that was a nice moment of the silly and the serious at once, and that is, again, in stark contrast to what we’re seeing on the other side,” Rubin added.
