Former President Donald Trump’s purported “threats” are cause for concern for all Americans, according to twice-unsuccessful presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. She contends that a potential second term for Trump would resemble governance by a dictator in the Oval Office.
During an appearance on the Defending Democracy podcast by Democracy Docket, Clinton expressed her belief that President Biden is demonstrating responsible leadership by refraining from engaging in hostile rhetoric towards individuals at rallies or online, and by abstaining from threats of incarceration or execution.
However, Clinton did not address various instances of divisiveness during Biden’s presidency, including his criticisms of “MAGA Americans,” accusing them of endangering democracy and disregarding the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution. She also did not mention Biden’s approach toward unvaccinated Americans, whom he labeled as selfish, irresponsible, and unpatriotic during his initial years in office.
Nevertheless, Clinton perceives Trump as an “authoritarian,” citing unpredictability in behavior and a disregard for institutions and the rule of law. She warns that if Trump were to return to the White House, the constraints that existed during his first term would vanish, potentially leading to a dictatorial regime.
Donald Trump Jr. previously stated that it took his father’s presidency to expose the inner workings of the political establishment, and he emphasized the importance of understanding who can be trusted within it.
Trump made headlines by suggesting that he would exercise dictatorial powers only on his first day in office, specifically mentioning actions regarding border security and energy policy.
