Sheldon Johnson, a 48-year-old employee at the public law firm Queens Defenders, faces murder charges after law enforcement discovered a dismembered body in a Bronx apartment.
Surveillance footage captured Johnson at the crime scene wearing a blond wig. Inside the apartment, near Odgen Avenue and West 162nd Street, police found a human torso in a blue bin and a head stored in a freezer, as reported by The New York Post. Witnesses in the neighborhood recounted hearing the victim’s pleas for mercy before two gunshots rang out.
The building superintendent, who preferred to remain unidentified, described requesting a welfare check on the tenant due to suspicious behavior. This included Johnson entering the apartment with a blue bin at 2 a.m. and not removing it afterward. Surveillance footage showed Johnson with the bin, later leaving in the victim’s blue Audi, and returning via an Uber, now sporting a blond wig.
“He’s behaving oddly, altering his appearance and demeanor,” the superintendent noted. “That’s concerning; he’s concealing something.”
Johnson, a former inmate who spent two decades behind bars for a string of armed robberies, purportedly underwent a transformation upon his 2019 release. He held a position as a client advocate at Queens Defenders and shared his journey on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, discussing his past involvement with the Bloods gang and his commitment to rehabilitation during his incarceration.
The identity of the victim remains undisclosed pending family notification. It’s speculated that the motive behind the murder could be linked to a feud between Johnson and the victim dating back to their time in prison.
