Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia filed a motion to vacate in March and recently announced her plan to proceed with a bid to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson from his position this week. Although she has yet to initiate the process, she met with Johnson twice this week and presented him with four demands.
Greene wants Johnson to follow the Hastert rule, which requires bills to have support from the majority of Republicans before reaching the floor. She also demands an end to funding for Ukraine and wants to defund the special counsel investigating former President Donald Trump.
Additionally, Greene urges the House to pass the 12 individual appropriations bills or else approve a continuing resolution with a 1% spending cut if the deadline is not met.
Her demands are outlined in a tweet from her @RepMTG X account: supporting the Hastert rule, halting funding for Ukraine, defunding special counsels, and passing a continuing resolution with a spending cut to avoid a shutdown.
Another tweet asks whether Johnson will act as a Democrat or a Republican Speaker, pointing out that he has supported Biden and Schumer’s agendas. Greene suggests he is capable of meeting her demands on behalf of the Republican majority and emphasizes the need for action, not just words.
