Afroditi Latinopoulou, a Greek member of the EU Parliament representing the “Voice of Reason” party, delivered a powerful and impassioned critique of Europe’s socialist policies. Latinopoulou argued that 50 years of socialist governance and the rise of woke ideology have devastated economies and weakened Europe, rather than the so-called “far right.”
Latinopoulou began her speech by asking, “Seriously, ladies and gentlemen?” She continued, “Did the right destroy industry? Did the right idolize Greta Thunberg? Did the right impose green energy at the expense of industry, destroying the EU’s competitiveness?”
She then posed the question, “Or was it the socialist governments that have been ruling the European Union for 50 years?” Latinopoulou highlighted the impact of socialist policies on countries like France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and her homeland, Greece, stating, “France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and my homeland Greece have been devastated by groundless socialist policies.”
She challenged her colleagues, saying, “And today you, the destroyers of Europe, have the audacity to point fingers at us, saying that we conservatives are a threat to Europe? I laugh. I truly laugh.”
Quoting Margaret Thatcher, Latinopoulou remarked, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” She urged policymakers to abandon what she called “ghost stories” about far-right threats and instead adopt liberal economic policies.
“Lower taxes, increase competitiveness, bring back plastic straws, leave lignite alone, invest in industry, and, above all, face reality: YOU HAVE FAILED,” she declared.
Latinopoulou concluded with a warning: “Follow what we’re telling you before it’s too late for everyone. We are the future, and you are the past.”
