Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) stated during “Fox News Sunday” that the aid package for Ukraine, which was included in Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) proposal, would not have been approved in the House without former President Donald Trump’s assistance.
Graham mentioned, “With our support, the Ukrainian military has managed to eliminate about half of Russia’s combat power. This year, they need more support and modern weaponry like ATACMS to disrupt the link between Crimea and Russia. They are also set to receive F-16s. Cutting support for Ukraine would not make the world safer; instead, it could jeopardize Taiwan’s situation.”
He continued, “The Ukrainians are fiercely defending their country. This aid package includes a loan component that wouldn’t have passed without Donald Trump’s involvement. I appreciate Speaker Mike Johnson and Hakeem Jeffries working together across party lines to provide weapons to Ukraine for a cause that benefits us. Trump added a loan element to the package, giving us future leverage.”
Graham concluded, “I disagree with the notion that we can’t support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan simultaneously. I completely reject that viewpoint.”
