California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has long faced criticism for his sweeping COVID-19 lockdowns and progressive stances on issues like transgenderism, abortion, and immigration. But according to a new interview, there’s an even more alarming aspect to his record: alleged connections to Chinese organized crime.
In a conversation with Glenn Beck, author and journalist Peter Schweizer exposed what he describes as Newsom’s disturbing financial and political entanglements with China’s criminal underworld.
“Gavin Newsom, governor of California, will not call out China on fentanyl,” Schweizer stated, referencing Newsom’s October 2023 visit to China. During the trip, Newsom notably declined to hold Beijing accountable for the country’s role in fueling America’s fentanyl epidemic, including the supply of precursor chemicals that have devastated communities across California.
Critics said Newsom missed a critical opportunity to address the crisis. Schweizer, however, claims the refusal was no accident. “His history is a long association with Chinese organized crime figures,” he said. “When he was mayor of San Francisco, he appointed as the head of Chinatown economic development a guy who was a dragon head — that is a mafia leader in Chinese organized crime.”
Schweizer added that Newsom also “gave taxpayer money from San Francisco to [another dragon head’s] nonprofit,” and that “he had on his transition team yet another guy who was involved with Chinese organized crime who went to jail on a murder-for-hire plot.”
During Newsom’s tenure as San Francisco mayor, Schweizer explained, he created an initiative called ChinaSF, aimed at attracting Chinese investment to the city. To launch the effort, he partnered with “Vincent Lo,” a figure “already publicly known to be associated with Chinese organized crime.” According to Schweizer, some of the early businesses that participated in the ChinaSF initiative were directly tied to criminal enterprises.
“This is different than the corruption I have seen in the past,” said Glenn Beck. “This corruption leads to the destruction and the death — literal death — of Americans.”
