House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) asserted in an interview on Breitbart News Daily after Thursday’s State of the Union (SOTU) address that President Joe Biden is now addressing immigration solely because it has become a “political liability.”
Emmer criticized Biden for starting his speech with a focus on Ukraine rather than domestic issues, which he believes are more pressing for Americans.
He highlighted ongoing crises at the border, global instability, and economic challenges as indicators of the true state of the union under Biden’s leadership.
Emmer particularly criticized Biden’s claim that America is safer now than before his presidency, citing instances such as the tragic death of Laken Riley at the hands of an illegal immigrant. He condemned Biden’s misidentification of Riley and noted the delayed mention of her in the speech.
Emmer praised Biden’s acknowledgment of Riley’s killer as an illegal immigrant but pointed out Democratic dissent over such language, exemplified by Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s reaction.
Discussing legislative efforts like the Laken Riley Act, which requires ICE to detain illegal immigrants charged with theft, Emmer expressed frustration that Biden refuses to reverse his executive orders on immigration.
He highlighted the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas for failing to enforce immigration laws and suggested that passing legislation may not yield results without genuine enforcement.
Emmer emphasized the importance of voting in the next election, urging support for Republicans to address border security and remove what he perceives as radical Democrats from office.
