According to a Friday filing with the Federal Election Commission, Elon Musk made his largest-known political donation to date in August, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) reported, as cited by Politico. The contribution of $289,100 was aimed at supporting Republican efforts to maintain their House majority. It was funneled through a joint fundraising committee connected to Republican California Rep. Ken Calvert, primarily earmarked for the NRCC’s convention and headquarters activities.
While Musk has previously donated to both Democratic and Republican causes, this is his most substantial contribution so far. Recently, Musk has voiced support for former President Donald Trump on X (formerly known as Twitter). The two have appeared together in an event that garnered millions of listeners, with Trump calling Musk a “brilliant person” during an interview on Theo Von’s podcast.
The NRCC donation is part of a broader strategy as the super PAC, under new leadership, is increasingly active in mobilizing voter turnout and influencing competitive House races nationwide. While $289,100 is a significant amount, it is anticipated that Musk may have contributed even more to America PAC. Super PACs, which can accept unlimited donations, will disclose their financials for the third quarter on October 15, which may reveal additional contributions from Musk.
Musk has also enlisted Chris Young, a seasoned Republican strategist, to enhance his political activities, according to The New York Times. Despite Musk’s contributions, the NRCC’s total August fundraising stood at $9.7 million, falling short of the $22.2 million raised by its Democratic counterpart, as reported by Politico.
